Discovery Zone

The Discovery Zone 2018 was supported by Norfolk County Council and Norfolk Farmers’ Trust, combining educational experiences with fun and interesting activities aimed at young people.

Activities that had been organised by the Food and Farming Discovery Trust included meeting animals in the dairy, exploring a man-made beach, reaching new heights on a climbing wall and getting up close to the science behind farming. Easton & Otley College and Norfolk Young Farmers supported the Discovery Zone with skilled individuals running hands-on activities.

Here’s what our visitors in 2018 took part in:

Science Zone

Explore, take part in messy experiments and have fun. Actvities in the Science Zone are all hands-on, free and suitable for juniors through to A level students as the scientists show you how much fun science can be. What’s going on? Lots, including vacuum bazookas, amazing marshmallows, anti gravity beads and much more – and find out about this year’ Norwich Science Festival.

Morrisons

Discover how supermarket Morrisons’ fishmongers prepare fish in store and watch their interactive demonstrations.

Now press ‘play’

Every child is given a pair of wireless headphones so they can become the main character in a story all about plants. They will discover a rare talking plant in their garden but government scientists arrive to take him away. It’s up to the child to find the right environment for him to live in.

Mr Mawkin’s dairy

Try your hand at milking one of Mr Mawkin’s cows on a milking simulator, and then try making ice cream on his farm.

Kumon Study Centre

Take part in solving a puzzle with the help of a number key to spell the name of a favourite farm animal or food. There will be three versions: one for young learners; one for students in years 2-5; and one for students in year 6 and above. There will also be some performance readings of the children’s book “Farmer Duck”.

Our Coast

Enjoy a day on the beach with Holkham Estate and the Marine Conservation Society. Join in with a sand line scavenge to see what treasures are left by the tide, learn how litter is affecting our marine life, create your own sea creature to take home and complete with a sandcastle
competition.

Skills Edge training

Play a giant interactive version of Monopoly, which involves mini-games such as walk the line and skittle.
